How it works

From email to settled — in five steps.

MailPay is not a wallet or a closed loop. Every payment settles into real SEPA bank accounts using the official European Payments Council standards.

  1. 01

    You type an email

The recipient is just 'lisa@email.com'. No IBAN, no account number, no bank name.

  2. 02

    Proxy Lookup resolves the IBAN

MailPay queries the SEPA Proxy Lookup (SPL) directory operated under the EPC scheme. The matching IBAN is returned over a secure channel — never shown to you.

  3. 03

Verification of Payee runs a name-match

Per EU Regulation 2024/886, the registered name must match before the transfer is authorised. This stops misdirected and APP-fraud payments.

  4. 04

    SEPA Instant settles the transfer

A pacs.008 message is sent over EBA RT1 / TIPS. The recipient's bank credits the account in under ten seconds, 24/7/365.

  5. 05

    Real-time confirmation

Both parties receive a camt.054 webhook. You see the green check; the recipient sees the funds. No reconciliation required.

Fully legal in the EU. MailPay operates as a PSD2-licensed Payment Institution and registers aliases in the SEPA Proxy Lookup service governed by the European Payments Council. The underlying IBAN always exists — it just stays invisible.
